2025 and 2027
Shortly after the Special Election in January of 2024, I updated my commitment to run again and revised my ActBlue account. The next election day was on November 4, 2025 for the 2026 session. While I didn't win overall, I did increase the percentages by 5% and decidedly won my hometown of Martinsville, VA (by almost 60% - which was a higher percentage than our now elect Governor Abigail Spanberger received statewide). Grateful to everyone who believed in me and freely provided their vote. Humbled. Republicans are now in the tiniest minority they have been in for almost four decades. The current delegate will essentially have no power to pass legislations to benefit our communities. That's not a win. Perhaps next time, our voters will vote for "Majority Mel."
Recently, I amended my Statement of Organization to run again in just two years. The next general election for the Virginia House of Delegates will be Tuesday, November 2, 2027. No election should ever go unopposed. Voters will have an option.
This journey continues to be enlightening and educational, presenting challenges that have tested my resilience. The experience, though demanding, has only fueled my passion for our community. I am embarking on this run again to continue making a positive impact on the area I deeply care about: my hometown of Martinsville, VA and the surrounding areas of District 48, which includes most of Henry and Pittsylvania Counties.
